Question:

How can I disable ping on my RedHat server?

Answer:

To change it permanently (including after reboot), edit config file /etc/sysctl.conf
and add this line at the end:

net.ipv4.icmp_echo_ignore_all=1

Alternatively, for a quick disabling until the next reboot, you can use sysctl:

sysctl -w net.ipv4.icmp_echo_ignore_all=1

[root@gxn1/]# sysctl -w net.ipv4.icmp_echo_ignore_all=1
[root@gxn1/]#
[root@gnx1 /]# cd /etc
[root@gnx1 etc]# vi sysctl.conf
