The following is in reference to CareerBuilder.com, an online jobs board, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.

CareerBuilder Job Scam

I posted my resume on www.careerbuilder.com; I was solicited by a potential employer affiliated with CareerBuilder, Niamax Limited. The email was sent on CareerBuilder letterhead, as are many emails I receive from the CareerBuilder site. The soliciting company's website is www.niamax-ltd.com; this company is listed as doing business in the United Kingdom.

After expressing my interest with their company, I was emailed a legal document (employment contract) to email or fax back to them. The employer then conducted a preliminary "background check" on me and offered me a job. I agreed to work part-time for them as an independent contractor, processing payments from their customers in the United States. I was instructed that I needed to process these payments through Wells Fargo Bank, and would need to obtain a Wells Fargo Bank account if I currently didn't own one.

I accepted two payments (online transfers) into my Wells Fargo Bank account from two other Wells Fargo Bank customers that were supposedly Niamax customers. I was instructed to send the bulk of each payment to a specified business associate, after subtracting my 6% commission, and the Western Union transfer fee. I sent both payments to business associates in Athens, Greece by Western Union; both payments were picked up same day. One man's name was Cornet Deglos, the other was Cleys Mercken.

Wells Fargo Bank has now reversed the initial online customer transfers into my account, stating the transactions were unauthorized (hacked from the accounts of other Wells Fargo Bank customers). I am now responsible for the gross amount ($1977.30) of both unauthorized transactions into my account because I withdrew the money and sent it on, as instructed by my employer, Niamax Limited.

Wells Fargo Bank is not interested in discussing the fact that their system was breached by a hacker, or the fact that I only processed the payments. I asked Wells Fargo Bank why holds were not placed on these online transfers into a NEW account, but they gave no answers, and didn't provide me with an explanation.

Additionally, I notified CareerBuilder's Integrity Team regarding their affiliation with this employer. The representative stated CareerBuilder can't screen all employers utilizing their website, and that I should have read their fraud disclaimer, which is obscurely located in fine print on their website.

Presently, the foundation (CHRF) was granted a funding to head a charity support project in the tropical regions of West Africa regarding Poverty Alleviation , counseling on the HIV AIDS which is increasing at an alarming rate and provision of basic amenities in support to humanitarian services to the third world nations and this would be commencing very soon, However , our funding were by my American counterparts and they mostly come in US based Money Orders and sometimes Cashiers Checks.

Getting an accountant in the states or opening an account would have been my best choice but I have a deadline to meet and taking any of those choices would cost me time and a whole lot of other requirements I am not ready to deal with as I would be traveling a lot in the meantime.

So presently, having read your resume and 'assuming' you would be able to deal with cash, I would be willing to employ you on contract basis to be my payment representative back in the states, this way I could issue and make these money orders out to you, you could then cash them easily, withdraw 10% of the total amount on these money orders as your commission for the great service you would be rendering in support to saving life's in the third world and then send the rest back to me through Western Union Money transfer.

Bear it in mind that we would be dealing with quite a handful of cash and you could be making good money working with me in a short period of time. I would be glad if you accept my proposal and I intend to commence on starting as soon as you are ready.

Some prick from LAtiva contacted me, I thought it was legit, so he sent me 1600, asked me to westernunion it back, Ifound out it was a scam, he asked for his money, and I sent him a link that describes the scam and told him I gave his money to the FBI, he has not emailed since. I say they want to screw us, lets screw them right back.

I find this strange as yesterday I received an email from Wells Fargo (supposedly) Wells Fargo is my current ban and has been for many years. I have not provided Wells Fargo with my hotmail address. I was/am a bit concerned and will contact Wells Fargo about this. Here is the email I got after my first response declining the offer to make $3000 per month part time!

After three (3) months of service all expatriates will be entitled to a Health Service Insurance Plan (HSIP) for family. The Health Service Insurance Plan is designed to cover only three (3) members of your family. The Health Service Insurance Plan (HSIP) allowance can also be paid to the expatriates at the rate of 500.00 per family member per month (1,500.00 per month) which can be transferred on monthly basis without being subjected to tax.

7.0 FEEDING AND ACCOMMODATION:
Accommodation and feeding shall be provided for all expatriates, and by a Five Star Hotel in Metropolitan Area.
All cuisine (Intercontinental/Continental) will also be provided by the Company through the services of the assigned hotel.

7.1 TRANSPORTATION:
An official vehicle shall be provided on 24-hour daily basis to all expatriate for local transportation.

A round trip flight ticket to cover the span of your contract engagement will be provided and delivered to you on the completion of your relevant travel documents and immigration particulars.

7.2 ADDITIONAL SERVICES:
Recreational/Sports Facilities shall also be made available at the disposal of all expatriates with no expenses to be incurred.
Laundry and Dry Cleaning Service will also be made available to all expatriates by the company?s laundry and dry cleaning unit.

8.0 TELECOMMUNICATION/INTERNET FACILITIES:

I Also got one of these but the check for 1900.00 was from an actual person who lives in llas vegas (I tracked down there name & adresss , which was on the check) .

Is this person part of the scam or did they (Scamsters) Lift his name & Number? Do I contact him?

I recieved one of these either, and I think if a company is really seeking for an empoyee, it would not send the congratulations to all the recievers!!

Checks from fake check scammers are always made with names of actual persons or companies, otherwise the scam wouln't work.
You go to the bank, they verify that person's account and declare that the check is 'good'
You then cash it and send money to the scammer.
At the end of the month, the bank sends the cancelled checks to the person/company.
At some point, which scould be weeks or even months, this person/company notices that one of their check has been forged, return it to the bank.
The bank contacts you and demand their money back immediatly, which is their legal right.
You have been scammed, and may be charged with bank fraud.

After three (3) months of service all expatriates will be entitled to a Health Service Insurance Plan (HSIP) for family. The Health Service Insurance Plan is designed to cover only three (3) members of your family. An official vehicle shall be provided on 24-hour daily basis to all expatriate for local transportation.

Recreational/Sports Facilities shall also be made available at the disposal of all expatriates with no expenses to be incurred.

8.0 TELECOMMUNICATION/INTERNET FACILITIES:
There are standard Telecommunication Facilities and Internet services at the disposal of all expatriates, and same shall be accessible to all personnel (Local/Foreign) without any charge or expenses to be incurred.
Cellular Phones can be obtained by expatriates from the Local dealers/Service Providers in the United Kingdom, but must be used in accordance with the safety regulations on Job Locations.

9.0 FAMILY STATUS ARRANGEMENTS:
Family status arrangements can only be applied after at least three (3) months of service. 3.1 SALARY INDICATION:
Salary: £9,000.00, British Pounds Sterlings Monthly After Tax Deductions, can be transferred to any Bank or Country of your choice and all transfers must be made in conformity with the existing tax situation in United Kingdom.
