Question:

What is alg.exe? Is alg.exe spyware or a virus?

Answer:

alg.exe is harmless. It means Application Layer Gateway Service and is provided by Microsoft as part of the firewall in Windows (XP?) or ICS (internet connection sharing).

The original alg.exe file is located in the c:\windows\System32 folder. If your copy is located elsewhere, you probably are looking at a virus, spyware, trojan or worm!

The Windows process manager does not tell you the location of your alg.exe (you might have more than one on your hard disk).

Try this process manager instead - it will display the full information on all processes:

Hi I have found an alg.exe in c:\windows and it hides itself. It also sends large ammounts of data on DSL and it stops other users from connecting to the PC via LAN and e-mail time-out occur.
