Enabling and disabling automatic login in Windows XP

Question:How can I configure Windows XP to log on automatically?
Answer:You can configure Windows XP to automate the logon process if your computer is not part of a domain.
Now anyone with physical access to your computer can use this machine. It makes your computer more convenient to use, but at the same time can pose a privacy / security risk.
If you need to start up the computer but do not want to log in automatically one specific time, then You can suppress the automatic logon by pressing the SHIFT key during the boot process. Windows will prompt you for identification and authentication information interactively. This is the official method to temporarily disable automatic logon at startup.
